Fresh Starts Aren’t Just for Students: Creating a Home That Helps You Breathe โ˜•๐Ÿ’œ

A cozy home office scene with a purple coffee mug, notebook, lavender accents, and a sleeping fluffy cat beside a reminder that progress is better than perfection.
๐Ÿก A fresh start doesn’t have to mean changing everything.

Sometimes it means clearing one drawer, organizing one shelf, or creating a space that feels like home.

New blog is here! โ˜•๐Ÿ’œ

When we think about fresh starts, a lot of us think about September. New school supplies, new classrooms, new routines, and new beginnings. But the truth is, fresh starts aren’t just for students. They are for all of us, anytime we need them.

For me, resetting my home means getting back to basics. It means letting go of the things I no longer use, getting rid of the old, and taking back my space. There is something so refreshing about looking around your home and knowing that everything there has a purpose and belongs there.

I have noticed over the years that when my home feels cluttered, my mind feels cluttered too. The two definitely seem to go hand in hand. It becomes harder to relax when there are things everywhere reminding you of what needs to be done.

This past weekend I started with my desk, and now I’m moving into the kitchen. Although I have to admit… I have a terrible habit of starting one project, getting distracted, and moving onto another before I finish the first one. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But that is something I’m working on changing. This time I’m focusing on one area at a time and actually finishing what I start.

Speaking of the kitchen, let’s talk about my freezer empire. ๐Ÿ˜‚

When I cleaned it out, the biggest reason was because I honestly had no idea what was actually in there anymore. I didn’t know how much of certain things I had, and it was time to figure it out. It probably needs another little reset again, but honestly, having it organized was such a good feeling.

There is something very satisfying about opening a freezer and knowing exactly what is inside and where everything is. It makes preparing meals easier, and it is such a great reminder that sometimes we can take care of our future selves with a little planning today.

That was something I really appreciated when I got sick recently. The meals I had prepared ahead of time and frozen were there waiting for me when I needed them. Past Shelly helped future Shelly, and I was very thankful for that. ๐Ÿ’œ

Sometimes resetting your home doesn’t have to mean tackling a huge project. Sometimes it’s something as simple as making your bed, cleaning off one counter, organizing one drawer, or having a good old-fashioned “SHRED DAY.” ๐Ÿ˜‚

I don’t know what it is about shredding old papers, but I find it incredibly satisfying. It feels like clearing out physical clutter and a little bit of mental clutter at the same time.

One thing I think we all need to remember is there is no such thing as a perfect home. Just like there is no such thing as a perfect person. We put so much pressure on ourselves by comparing our lives and our homes to what we see from other people, but we never see the whole story.

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to feel like home.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, start small. Pick one thing. One drawer. One shelf. One room. Small steps build momentum, and before you know it, you have created change.

Over the past almost two years, I have worked hard to create a home that feels safe, comfortable, and peaceful. It has become my safe space, and I am so proud of how far it has come.

Of course, there is one very important person who believes he is in charge of all home inspections… Principal Sir Kit Kat. ๐Ÿพ

His inspections are very thorough, although sometimes he refuses to inspect things because they are apparently “too scary.” ๐Ÿ˜‚ His official report card would definitely say A+++.

When I look around my home, I’m not proud because everything is perfect. I’m proud because it is mine. It represents the work, the changes, and the little steps that have brought me here.

A home isn’t about having everything perfect.

It’s about creating a safe, comfortable, peaceful place for you.

So if your home needs a reset, don’t overwhelm yourself by looking at everything at once. Choose one small thing and start there. Be proud of yourself for taking that first step because you deserve to feel good in your own space.

Until next time…

Be kind to yourself.

Celebrate the little wins.

Keep moving forward one small step at a time.

And never forget…

You Matter. ๐Ÿ’œ

Love Always,

โ˜• Shelly
