☕ One Tiny Habit Can Change Your Whole Day

You know what takes less than five minutes but can completely change the mood or direction of my day? Making a coffee haha! There is just something about the smell of coffee that makes me feel better. The smell… mmmmmmm! ☕😂

I’ve also started working in blocks, and honestly, I didn’t think something that simple would work as well as it does. I set a 20-minute Focus block on my computer and work away until the alarm goes off, then I take a 5-minute break before I start again. It gives me a little bit of structure without feeling like I have to sit there forever trying to get everything done.

I think that’s something I’ve really been learning lately. I can make things so much harder than they need to be haha. Instead of trying to do everything at once, I’m learning to plan things ahead and make a game plan for my day. It doesn’t mean everything goes according to plan, because let’s be honest, life has a funny way of changing those plans for us! 😂 But having a plan gives me somewhere to start.

One of the little things I do the night before that makes my morning so much easier is making sure my kitchen is cleaned and ready for the next Hurricane Shelly Adventure! 😂 There is just something about walking into a clean kitchen. I know there is probably going to be some kind of chaos happening in there again, but at least I’m starting with a clean slate!

I’ve also noticed how easily one little thing going wrong can throw off an entire day if I let it. Absolutely! When something gets derailed, it can really mess with everything else. What I’m trying to do now is take a step back, replan, and not let that one thing get to me so much. Now, I’m not saying I don’t have those absolutely horrible days because I definitely do. We all have them. Sometimes you just have one of those days where nothing seems to go right and you just have to roll with it.

And then there is Sir KK. 😂 If he were choosing one tiny habit for me every day, I’m pretty sure he’d say spend more time with me! He definitely wouldn’t complain about more treats, but honestly, I think he’d choose the attention. He is such an attention hog these days and apparently thinks I work too much! 🐾

But when I really think about the one tiny change that has made the biggest difference for me, it’s not actually one specific task or habit. It’s how I’m approaching my days.

I no longer get up and dread the day.

I wake up, put a smile on my face, smile at my Nikki and say, “This is gonna be a good day,” and then I do my best to make it one.

Does that mean every day actually turns out to be a good day? Nope! 😂 We all know life doesn’t work that way. But starting my day with a different mindset has made a difference in how I approach whatever comes my way.

And I think that’s the whole point of small habits. We sometimes think we need to make these huge changes before anything will feel different, but maybe we don’t. Maybe it’s the little things we do over and over that slowly change how our days feel.

Making my coffee, working in little blocks, taking a break, cleaning the kitchen the night before, making a game plan, stepping back when something goes wrong, and making sure I leave a little room for Sir KK to remind me that apparently I don’t spend enough time petting him. 😂🐾

None of those things sound like huge changes, but together they have changed how I approach my days.

And that’s something I’m pretty proud of.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed and looking at everything you want to change, maybe don’t look at all of it at once. Pick one little thing. Something manageable. Something you can actually do today.

You don’t have to change your entire life overnight.

You don’t even have to figure out the whole plan.

Just start with one tiny thing.

And tomorrow, you can take another step.

Sometimes the smallest changes are the ones that give us room to breathe, move forward, and have a better day. 💜☕

So grab your coffee, take a breath, and give yourself permission to start small. You might be surprised where one tiny change can take you.

Love Always,
☕💜 Shelly
